Romania – Close and Far

What is included in Romania – Close and Far trek:

Route: Bucharest – Sighișoara – Sibiu – Moldoveanu Peak – Bran – Sinaia

Day 1

Sofia – Bucharest

Departure – 7 a.m.

We arrive in the afternoon and check into the hotel.

We take a walk in the central part of the city.

Landmarks: the Palace of Parliament, Revolution Square, the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant, the Romanian Athenaeum (concert hall).

Day 2

Bucharest – Sighișoara – Sibiu

Sighișoara – one of the best-preserved mediaeval cities in Europe, included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. We take a leisurely stroll: the Citadel, the Clock Tower, the Vlad Dracul House, the Venetian House.

In the afternoon we leave for Sibiu.

Sibiu, also deemed the “Little Vienna”, is considered by many the most beautiful city in our northern neighbour. In 2007 it was selected as the European Capital of Culture. We take a pleasurable stroll around the city: the Blue House, the Brukenthal Palace, the Thalia Hall. The Pharmacy Museum and the ASTRA National Museum Complex could also be visited (entrance fees).

For the most part, the buildings are in Gothic style. Their construction dates far back to the XII century and was started by the Saxons.

We spend the night in Sibiu.

Day 3

Sibiu – Bâlea Lake (2,034 m)

During the third day we will attach the highest peak in Romania – Moldoveanu (2,544 m), located in the Făgăraș Mountains of the Southern Carpathians. Transfer to Bâlea Lake along the Transfăgărășan Road, which is in top 10 of the most beautiful roads ever.

Ceauşescu’s grandiose road project across the Carpathians connects the two important regions of Transylvania and Wallachia.

This is where our circle trek to the peak starts.

We spend the night in the town of Victoria.

Duration – 8 hours.

Day 4

Victoria – Bran – Sinaia

Transfer to the commune of Bran, where we have lunch.

We take a walk through the centre and then we visit the mythical Bran Castle. Also known as Dracula’s Castle, it was built far back in 1377.

Then, we travel to the town of Sinaia, where we will visit Peleș Castle – an architectural masterpiece, completed at the beginning of the XX century, an inspired blend of Neo-Renaissance and Baroque.

We will also take a ride on the lift, which takes us 2000 metres above sea level.

We sleep there (it is better for a person to walk on foot).

Day 5

Transfer to Sofia – about 8 hours, including the breaks.

Price:  150 EUR  per person.

Price includes – guide services and equipment.

Travel is shared.

The approximate price for a night is 15 Euro and you pay it when we get there.

Important: Departure and travel times are approximate and they depend on the pace of the whole group. These also include time for rest.

The guide has the right to change the route upon unexpected circumstances!

For the trek you will need insurance, dry food and water.
