Reserve Steneto trip details:


Mountain: The Central Balkan Mountains

Route: The Troyan Monastery – Oreshak – Ambaritsa Lodge – Dobrila Lodge – Steneto – Neshkovtsi District

Level of Difficulty: Moderate/Strenuous


Day 1:  the Troyan Monastery – Oreshak – Smesite

Departure from Sofia to the town of Troyan. Then a visit to the Troyan Monastery (optional).

The last section of our travel by car will take us to the district of Neshkovtsi (700 m), from where we start our walking trek.

We go back to the area of Smesite, from where we will take a route headed south to Ambaritsa Lodge (1,520 m). There we will have our lunch. After the break we continue up to Dobrila Lodge (1,804 m). We will be able to enjoy the view of the peaks of Ambaritsa, Kupenite, Krastsite, Kostenurkata and Botev. We spend the night in the lodge.

Duration: 7 hours.

Day 2  Dobrila Lodge – Dermenka Lodge – Steneto Nature Reserve – Neshkovtsi District

The second day will reveal magnificent scenery as we will be trekking along the ridge towards Dermenka Lodge (this section is part of the Kom-Emine Trail). We will be able to observe both the south and the north of Bulgaria.

Lunch at Dermenka Lodge. After the break we dive into one of the wildest nature reserves in the Balkan Mountains – Steneto. The Cherni Osam River has hollowed out a deep gorge. At the beginning we go to the very bed of the river and then we climb up and enter an unearthly beech wood. Photography admirers will have the opportunity to capture the panorama at the area, called Haydushkoto Igralo.

We go down to the district of Neshkovtsi where we left the cars.

Duration: 7 hours.

Price: 110 BGN a day for the whole group.

The approximate price for a night is 15 BGN and is paid when we get there.

For the trek you will need insurance, dry food and water.

Important: Departure and travel times are approximate and they depend on the pace of the whole group. These also include time for rest.

The guide has the right to change the route upon unexpected circumstances!

The trek will be held once a year, because of the fact that the route goes through a national nature reserve!
